PET ADOPTION

We at Central Texas Animal Hospital support the efforts of local adoption groups. We suggest that you check with them as you consider adding a new pet to your family. Animal shelters can be a great source when looking for a pet. Not only do they have a great selection of adult animals for adoption, but they also have kittens and puppies, even purebred animals. On average, purebreds account for about 25 to 30 percent of a shelter's dog population.

Don't be discouraged if, when you first visit the shelter, there are no animals of the breed or type you want. Shelters receive new animals every day. Your shelter may also have a waiting list and can call you when an animal matching your preference becomes available.
In an effort to make good matches between people and animals and to place pets in lifelong homes, many shelters provide adoption counseling and follow-up assistance, such as pet parenting and dog-training classes, and behavior counseling.

Another advantage is that shelter adoption fees are usually much less than an animal's purchase price at a pet store or breeder. And your new pet is more likely to be vaccinated, dewormed, and spayed or neutered.

		Name: Dakota Dakota is an Anatolian Shepherd mix and is 3 years old. He weighs 120 pounds. He is a sweet and lovable boy who gets along well with other dogs. He is housetrained. If you would like to make him part of your family, please call Melissa at 512-413-5527.
		Name: Oscar He’s a very active 18month old German Shepherd-mix. There’s been talk that he may have some Husky traits as well. Oscar is not for the timid. He needs a home where boundaries are set and structure is of the highest priority. Because of his need for consistency, it is strongly preferred that he lives in an adult only home. Oscar is a loving little boy. He’s shown tendencies to quickly bond with people who return affection and longs for a master that he can express his strong loyalty to. His good looks and warm demeanor has immediately charmed all who have met him. He’s a very alert dog and has strong instincts to protect. Oscar will only go to a home where he can be the only dog. He has done well in group classes with other dogs, but has shown tendencies to be dog aggressive. It is believed that he may have lived most of his life as a solo dog and received little attention, so at the moment he lacks basic social skills when it comes to other dogs. Oscar is receiving professional training on a daily basis and is looking forward to sharing his skills and companionship with someone who will give him the same love and support in return. He’s been neutered and is up to date on all shots – flea and heartworm free.
